A Life Coach’s Secrets to Mid-Year Reset

We’re officially at the halfway point of the year. Can you believe it? The beginning of the year might feel like it was just yesterday—or a lifetime ago. Life has a funny way of twisting and turning in ways we didn’t expect, and for many of us, those January visions might feel far off now. If that’s you, I want you to know: you’re not behind. You’re right on time.

Earlier this year, the yoga studio where I taught for a couple of years closed its doors. It was a space that had become a second home for me, a place where I supported fellow teachers, connected with students, and watched them grow in real-time. That loss shook me. But it also nudged me into stepping out of my comfort zone and putting myself out there more than I ever had before. A few years ago, I would have stayed quiet and waited for the “right” moment. Now? I’m teaching workshops, growing my 1:1 coaching practice, and sharing the gifts of somatic yoga with a broader community.

And yet, even as I stretch myself into new spaces, I miss the in-person connection—the smiles after savasana, the heartfelt conversations at the end of class. That’s the bittersweet truth of growth: sometimes you have to release something precious to step into something bigger.

Power of the Pause

In a world obsessed with hustle and “what’s next,” the mid-year point is a powerful invitation to pause. To check in. Not with judgment, but with curiosity and compassion. Think of it like stepping onto your yoga mat: we begin where we are. We notice. We breathe. We surrender the outcome and have faith that things are unfolding exactly as they should—even if it doesn’t match our timeline.

Let this be your permission slip:
“You’re allowed to grow out of your old goals.” Or “It’s okay for me to pivot.”  Just like we do on our yoga mat, sometimes we have to modify-not because we always want to, but because that’s what’s best for us at that day and time. That’s the beauty of yoga. We get to learn about ourselves or have self-study, Svadhyaya, and apply that in all areas of our lives.

Why Mid-Year Reflection Is Self-Care

Self-Care = Truth-Telling, Not Just Treating

We hear so much about self-care as bubble baths and spa days. And hey, I love those too! But real self-care is often quieter and deeper. It’s about truth-telling. It’s asking yourself the hard questions: Is this really working for me? Is this belief still true—or is it something I clung to for safety that’s now keeping me small?

Real self-care looks like setting boundaries and keeping them. It looks like clarity: How do I feel? What do I want?

It’s what I call “yoga in action.” We bring the awareness we cultivate on our mat into our daily lives. We parent ourselves. We become the wise best friend we’ve always needed.

Slowing Down Is Revolutionary

We live in a world that rewards speed. Scroll faster. Respond now. Achieve yesterday. But in that constant motion, we lose connection—to ourselves, to our bodies, to our purpose.

I once read about a study that showed students who paused longer before solving algebra problems performed better. More efficient strategies. Fewer resets. Why? Because they took time to reflect. That lesson stuck with me. “Slow down to speed up.” That phrase has echoed in my own life.

When we pause—take a breath, journal, walk, or sit quietly—we create the space for better answers to arrive. We shift from reacting to responding. We remember to tap into our intuition to help guide us.

Try this: next time you’re overwhelmed, stop. Literally. Put your hand on your heart. Take a breath. Ask: What do I need right now? That’s self-care in motion.

You’re Allowed to Pivot

Maybe you set a goal in January that doesn’t resonate anymore. Maybe life threw a curveball. That doesn’t mean you failed. That means you’re living. You’re evolving. Give yourself permission to experiment. Try something different. See what happens.

Sometimes the most empowering thing you can do is release a goal. Put it on the shelf. Reframe it. Or change the entire plan. Just because it mattered then doesn’t mean it still serves you now.

Reflection isn’t punishment for your past self. It’s an awareness for your present self. You get to decide what you do with that reflection and what you want to put into action based on it.

Journal Prompts to Guide Your Mid-Year Check-In

Light a candle. Grab your journal. Put on some soothing music. These prompts are designed to help you tune in to what’s true for you—in your body, in your life, and in your heart.

  • 💭 What feels aligned right now — and what doesn’t?
  • 💭 Where am I still “shoulding” on myself?
  • 💭 If I gave myself full permission to want what I want, what would I choose next?
  • 💭 How do I want to feel in the second half of this year?
  • 💭 What am I craving more of this season — and how can I honor that craving in small ways?

No pressure to have the “right” answers. Let your body answer, not just your mind.

Yoga & Somatic Practices to Support Alignment

Our bodies hold wisdom that our minds can’t always access. When we move—mindfully, intentionally, gently—we reconnect to that deep inner knowing.

Here are a few practices I recommend for mid-year realignment:

Grounding Flows for Clarity

Simple sun salutations or root chakra-focused flows can help you come back to center. Feel your feet. Engage your breath. Come home to now.

Heart Openers + Core Activating for Balance

Open your heart with gentle backbends. Strengthen your core (your third chakra—your power center!) to connect willpower with compassion.

Restorative or Yin Yoga

Counter the year’s intensity with stillness. Long holds, supported poses, and soft breath can help you replenish and restore.

Somatic Yoga for Stress Release

This is my go-to. Nonlinear movement—shaking, spiraling, spiraling on hands and knees—can discharge stuck stress and complete the stress cycle. Somatic yoga helps us form new neural pathways and move energy that’s been stored in the body, sometimes for years.

Breathwork for Regulation

  • Box Breathing: Inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold out for 4. Repeat 4–6 rounds.
  • Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing): Balances both hemispheres of the brain and promotes calm clarity.

These practices aren’t about doing it perfectly. They’re about coming back to yourself.

You’re Allowed to Change — And That’s Growth

Let’s normalize the pivot. Change isn’t a sign of failure. It’s a sign of wisdom. You’re allowed to change your pace, your plans, your mind.

When I transitioned from being a stay-at-home mom to going through yoga teacher training, I didn’t fully know where it would lead. I just knew I wanted to help people navigate life transitions with the same tools that helped me. My vision has evolved since then—now I blend yoga, somatics, and life coaching to support others in a deeper way. But the heart of the work? Helping people remember their own power? That’s always been there.

Celebrate the small wins. The quiet lessons. The shifts in perspective. You don’t have to achieve everything to be proud of how far you’ve come.

Progress over perfection. Alignment over achievement.

Reset with Intention

So, here’s your gentle nudge: take the pause. Let go of outdated goals and self-imposed pressure. Reconnect with what matters now.

You don’t need to prove yourself.
You need to honor yourself.

Whether that means journaling, booking a coaching session, joining a yoga class, or simply taking a quiet walk—your mid-year reset is a chance to come back to your truth.

And remember, I’m here if you need support. Whether it’s through a private session, a workshop, or just a conversation, I believe in your ability to realign, reflect, and reclaim your vision—on your terms.

Much love & health,

Carrie
